School for visually impaired students "Veljko Ramadanović" in Zemun is active in preschool, elementary and high school education and literacy of students with low vision and all visually impaired persons for work in various working profiles as:
- packer(2nd educational degree)-one year education
- telephonist-teletypewriter-radio operator(3rd educational degree)
- birotechnican(4th educational degree)
Statistics says that average number of students in last 10 years has been 175.
In school object is also conducted elementary music education of visually impaired students in association with Music school "Kosta Manojlović" from Zemun.
Whole school's activity is is organized in specially built and old reconstructed objects arranged for our students needs. School yard, all areas, sport fields and walking paths are also constructed and adapted for visually impaired people.
Depending on abilities and age we conduct education in forenoon shift in classical manner, on the classes concept. In the afternoon, we conduct more pedagogic work with children in our internat through learning basic concepts of adjusting for independent living, and also free time and entertainment.
After team processing and diagnostic of students we are conducting all education processes according to modern knowledge in typhlologic theory and praxis, as well as special curriculum adjusted to visually impaired and low sighted students and their needs. School is equipped with modern pedagogic tools for conducting this way of education.
Special attention is focused on individual abilities of every and each student, by use of different methods and modern education tools. We also organize additional classes and various non-school activities.
In school we conduct: logopedic work, psychomotor exercises,prevential and correctional exercises, orientation trainings and learning abilities for individual motion of low sighted and visually impaired people. We also conduct literation of new blinded people on Braille alphabet.
Descriptiveness in educational process is accomplished by use of special tools(models, relief charts, schemes and drawings, magnified didactic tools from other common methods of learning) and some of them are made in school's printing facility and in the workshop for making tiflotechnical tools.
School has very well equipped media center and library with more than 9000 headings(2300 in teachers part of library and 6700 in student's library) with rich historical materials.
Within our library and media center we formed Memorial gallery dedicated to life and work of our founder Veljko Ramadanović.
Results of school work is accomplished levels of knowledge among our students(socialized, able to live and work in special workshops as well as in public economy like telephonists in post offices, physical therapeutist and also professors of English language, music, sociology, psychology, philosophy, history, Serbian language and literature, defectology, lawyers and many more).
Advising work is also represented in school in order to help parents of visually impaired children in early treatment and integrated education.
Some of our students accomplished very high levels of education-master and phD and many of them are active collaborators of school.
We are also educational base for Defectology Faculty.
School is involved in international cooperation within European conference on blindness and low sight since 1995.
Reconstruction and partial building and equipment of school facilities is made with help of various donations from government and humanitarian domestic and foreign organizations.
